This creed was first formulated at the First Ecumenical Council of our Christian Faith, held at Nicea, located in what is now Turkey, in 325, as a response to the Arian heresy, which denied the divinity of Christ. It was revised at the Second Ecumenical Council, held at Constantinople in 381 as a response to the Macedonian or Pneumatomachian heresy, which denied the divinity of the Holy Spirit.
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; and in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord, and Giver of Life, who proceedeth from the Father; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spake by the Prophets.
We believe in the one Holy, Christian and Apostolic Church;
We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
AMEN.
The River is Pre-Denominational. The church of our Lord, Jesus Christ was first mentioned in Matthew 16:18 and began 33AD at Pentecost (Acts 2:47)
Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Pre-Denomination simply means we believe in the teachings of the early church (Ancient Faith) at her conception, before she was split into denominations (religious group within a faith that has its own system of organization). At the birth of the Christian Faith, it was ONE church and of ONE faith. Currently in the 21st century, we now have over 33,000 different religious groups within the Christian faith that govern themselves by their own system of organization. It is the desire and direction of TRCOC to see the church return to her former state of glorious unity.
While we are orthodox; traditional in our beliefs, we do not neglect the rivers God has used to display Himself and His works and as a result we are convergent in our expression!
